What's a Class Rating Instructor?
A Class Rating Instructor (CRI) is an instructor that instructs existing pilots who have a current licence and medical.
Instruction can take place even if the pilot has a lapsed certificate of experience.
CRI's can instruct on any aspect of flying up to the level of their own current ratings.
Consequently, Nigel can instruct pilots as follows:
- undertake and sign off the biennial "dual" one hour flight required as part of the certificate of experience revalidation
- undertake and sign off official "differences" training (variable pitch prop, retractable undercarriage, turbo/super chargers, tail-wheel and glass cockpit) ratings
- teach the AOPA Aerobatic certificate course
- undertake type conversions between any type of SEP aircraft (e.g. HR200 to C172, TB10, AC112, Yak52 or vice versa etc) day and night
- undertake club currency checkouts (day and night)
- provide general revision and refresher training including night, IMC and aerobatics
- authorise pilot sign-outs on aircraft tech logs

Has around 1300 hours on many different types of aircraft. Holds IMC
and night ratings, as well as "complex" (variable pitch propellers,
retractable undercarriage, super/turbo charged aircraft), and
tail-wheel ratings. Nigel holds an aerobatic formation CAA Display
Authorisation (flying a Yak52 - see
yakdisplay.com), as well as being a CAA authorised
flight test pilot. Nigel is the author of the Anglian Flight Centres Advanced PPL and Formation courses. |
